Students’ project approval

Rules for approval before the project

The IOPS has the following rules for approval and implementation of the curriculum and research proposal of a PhD student. A new proposal for an IOPS student consists of a research and curriculum plan. The research plan consists of the following topics (among others):

  • A description of the scientific context of project, the research problems, the results in view, and the scientific and the practical relevance.
  • An elaboration of the method of data collection (if relevant) and data analysis
  • A detailed description of the activities planned for the first 12 months and a more global description of the activities for the remaining period.
  • Start and end date of the project.

The curriculum plan consists of the following topics:

  • A thorough description of the knowledge and skills needed to execute the research project adequately;
  • An indication of the scope and content of the broader educational training.

After approval of the research and curriculum proposal, and after a student has been appointed, the educational program is formulated. This program is based on the curriculum proposal and is geared to the individual knowledge and preferences of the IOPS student with respect to education. The curriculum also has to be approved by the IOPS board.

Rules for approval during the project

Each year the IOPS student hands in a report of both research and educational progress. An official form for a progress report is available at the IOPS secretary. The progress report has to be sent by mail to the IOPS secretary, and has to be approved by the IOPS board. The IOPS student receives a written reaction of the IOPS board.
