The IOPS 2026 Winter Conference in Tilburg will most likely take place on December 9-10 (instead of December 10-11). So please save the date!
IOPS – SMiP Summer Conference 2026 – Flashback
Date: 25-26 June 2026 Venue: University of Groningen (RUG)
The summer conference in Groningen proved to be inspirational for all attending members and staff of IOPS and SMiP, through the exchange of research, presentations, and ideas. And during the panel session on Explanation versus Prediction, with professors Mark de Rooij, Katrijn Van Deun, Jan-Willem Romeijn and Denny Borsboom.

IOPS Best Poster presentation: Anouk Bouma (TiU) on ‘Reporting Practices, Open Science Practices, and Trustworthiness of Simulation Studies in Psychology: A Questionnaire Study’.
IOPS Best Oral presentation: Franziska Rüffer (TiU), presenting ‘Correcting moderator effects in meta-analysis when publication bias differs by moderator level’.
IOPS Best Paper Award 2025: Jesse Boot (UvA) for his publication ‘Integrating Dual-Process Decision Making and Social Dynamics: A Formal Modeling Framework for Addiction‘ (Boot, J., van den Ende, M. W. J., Wiers, R. W., Lees, M. H., & van der Maas, H. L. J. – 2025. Psychological Review).
SMiP Best Presentation Award: Malin Müller (RPTU Landau) on ‘Triangulating Inattentive Responding: Using Response Processes as a Qualitative Lens on Quantitative Detection Methods in ESM’.
SMiP Best Paper Award 2025-2026: Paul Kelber (University of Tübingen).

The IOPS-SMiP conference took place at the Munting building of the University of Groningen. Over the course of two days we aimed to re-connect, share, and inspire each other.
See the full Conference programme on all presentations, plenary sessions and informal gatherings. We highlight a few programme items:
- 15 talks (oral presentations) covering a wide range of topics, including Bayesian modeling, psychometrics (IRT, norming, measurement error, careless responding), intensive longitudinal data analysis, meta-analyses, cognitive process modeling, model misspecification, decision-making dynamics, interpretable machine learning, and psychometrics for applied psychological research.
- a panel session on ‘Explanation versus Prediction‘ featuring leading researchers from the field — for plenty of interaction and lively discussions.
